Food can quicken the brain, lift and improve the mood. The popular name given to the branch of medicine that deals with nutrition and it’s effect on the mind is called “Phychonutrition.” It was not until the 70’s and 80’s did scientists discover “neurotransmitters” (brain chemicals) and the mind/brain studies exploded. Most of their attention was paid to two important macro-nutrients that are instrumental in the manufacture and transport of brain chemicals. We will learn how to balance the chemical substances made directly from our food to manage our energy states – for a comfortable, calm alert state or a strong energy sprint that makes us think faster and perform better. We will look at the role of the Antioxidant in Brain Function and the many foods to support it.
